President John Dramani Mahama is taking action on his promise to strengthen governance and accountability.
As part of that, the President met with civil society organisations to discuss the establishment of the Governance Advisory Council – a key commitment from his 2024 campaign.
The council will serve as an independent watchdog, advising the government on critical issues such as human rights, corruption, and governance.
President Mahama stated, “This council is a commitment to the Ghanaian people, a promise to foster a more transparent and accountable government.”
The Council will comprise diverse voices from civil society, religious leaders, traditional authorities, academia, labour, and ordinary Ghanaians. It will produce an annual, publicly accessible report on the state of human rights, corruption, and governance in Ghana.
Dr. Valerie Sawyerr, Senior Presidential Advisor for Governmental Affairs, will lead the government’s efforts in establishing this vital council.
