The Deputy Minister of Finance said this in a speech delivered on his behalf by Karim Awudu, Special Assistant at the Asuogyaman District branch of Ghana National Association of Teachers (GNAT) 54th Delegate Conference held at Boso.
He reaffirmed President John Mahama’s commitment to making the teaching profession attractive, especially for educators working in hard-to-reach areas.
“President Mahama is committed to deliver on his promise to provide incentives to teachers posted in deprived communities as a form of motivation to attract teachers and reduce transfer requests from such areas,” the Deputy Minister stated in a speech read on his behalf.

The pledge comes as a response to the ongoing challenges facing teachers in rural and underserved communities, where poor infrastructure, lack of accommodation, and limited resources have historically discouraged postings.
The Deputy Minister also disclosed that under Mahama’s leadership, no new school will be constructed without an accompanying teachers’ bungalow. This policy, he noted, will help address the critical accommodation shortages confronting teachers in deprived areas, and improve their quality of life.
Infrastructure, Welfare, and GETFund Uncapping
On broader infrastructure issues, the Deputy Minister reaffirmed his commitment to lobbying for the completion of abandoned school projects and renovating aging educational facilities within the constituency.
He also applauded government’s decision to uncap the GETFund allocation, describing it as a critical step towards ensuring sustainable funding for Free Senior High School (SHS) and expanding access to tertiary education for marginalized groups, particularly persons with disabilities.
The Deputy Minister encouraged teachers to embrace continuous professional development and assured them of his office’s readiness to support their academic advancement and welfare needs.
Thomas Ampem Nyarko, commended local teachers for their commitment.
He assured to continue various intervention to increasing school enrollment and reducing dropout rates in deprived communities.

He cited for instance that a canoe he provided for school children commuting from Sedorm Island to Sedorm, has resulted in 100% punctuality among students in the area.
Thomas Ampem Nyarko Donated Ghc10, 000 from his common fund to support GNAT activities.
