As a further manifestation of international confidence in the leadership of President George Manneh Weah, and in the stability of the state, diplomats from five countries have joined their compatriots in taking up ambassadorial sojourn in the Country.
Since 2018 when the 24th President of the Republic was inaugurated, dozens of foreign diplomats and organizations continue to troop into the country in apparent appreciation of, and expression of trust in, the state of affairs of Liberia underpinned by transformative development and peace.
The five new diplomats who, on Thursday, February 23, 2023, presented Letters of Credence to the Liberian Leader at the Executive Mansion were Amb. Jeroen Verheul of The Netherlands, Amb. Kim Young-Chae of South Korea, Amb.Tom Noring of Denmark, Amb. Ms. Leena Pylvanainen of Finland, and Amb. Mrs. Ingrid Mollestad of Norway.
In separate ceremonies during the day, President Weah and individual envoys exchanged pleasantries and paid tributes to each other and reflected on longtime, mutually rewarding relationships cherished over the years.
First, presenting their respective letters of credence during the were Jeroen Verheul of Netherlands, Kim Young-Chae of South Korea, and Tom Norring of Denmark. President Weah variously welcomed the three envoys and reflected on the long-standing ties the countries have enjoyed over the years.
He pledged his government’s fullest cooperation in working with the three countries, assuring also that the Government of Liberia will do all it can to ensure that the bilateral and multilateral relationships sail smoothly and unhindered.
President Weah similarly assured the ambassadors and the rest of the world of his unflinching commitment to upholding the tenets of democracy, and that impending Legislative and Presidential elections will be free, fair and transparent as evidence of his commitment to peace.
He informed the ambassadors that Liberia is open to visitors and investments while also extending special greetings to their various leaders and peoples and that he is looking forward to a more rewarding working relationship.
In separate remarks, the Ambassadors of Netherlands, South Korea, and Denmark pledged to work with President Weah and his government for the betterment of the peoples of their respective countries.
Ambassador Jeroen Verheul of Netherlands particularly pledged his country’s continuous support to working with Liberia in the areas of health and education, adding also that his country is interested in trade, most especially in developing and exporting Liberia cocoa.
Also, South Korean Ambassador Kim Young-Chae has committed to enhancing his country’s ties with Liberia and commended President Weah for the level of development and economic growth Liberia is enjoying under his stewardship.
The new Danish Ambassador, Mr. Tom Noring said he was pleased with the diplomatic cooperation subsisting between the two countries while also extolling the President for the excellent job he is doing.
He said the people of Denmark and the rest of the world will greatly remember President Weah for the stance he took in the face of “Russia’s unprovoked and unjustified invasion of Ukraine”.
Ambassador Noring assured President Weah of his country’s interest in working with Liberia in agriculture and fishery development.
Later in the afternoon, the ambassadors of Finland and Norway Ms. Leena Pylvanainen and Mrs. Ingrid Mollestad respectively presented theirs.
The Finnish Ambassador thanked the President of Liberia for a job well done, including keeping the country peaceful.
For her, Ambassador Ingrid Mollestad wished the President and Liberians well during the upcoming October polls.
She promised the Kingdom of Norway unflinching support to the government and people of Liberia.
