Caucus Chairman for Cape Coast Assembly Members, Baba Ali Sumaila has thrown jabs at the Presiding Member of Cape Coast, Nana Awuku, accusing him of being dishonest and unfair concerning the elected MCE in Cape Coast.
According to him, the MCE elect, Ernest Arthur will never be accepted by the Assembly Members since his election was rigged.
Ernest Arthur has faced a thirst round of voting after has been rejected twice for failing to reach the two-thirds majority.
Speaking in an interview with Abena Opokua Ahwenee on Dadi FM, he added that democracy is not being practiced efficiently in Ghana if people can win the election through unscrupulous ways.
“There is no democracy in the country if we can’t exercise our voting rights in a free and fair manner”, he said.
Speaking in protest of the results of the elections, he added that the concerned Assembly Members of Cape Coast will not accept him as the MCE if the votes are not conducted right.
According to him, they have evidence to show that the election was not fairly conducted because some of the ballot papers were stamped before the election began.
In the same vein, he said that since the conception of the elections some of the Assembly Men have raised concerns about fairness in the election.
“These only shows that the country is not fair and we are not democratic as we claim because this is not the first, second, or third time we are talking about this issue”.
He stressed that the issue will not be taken to court because that will be just a waste of time, however, they will not regard Ernest Arthur as their MCE.
“They said we should take the issue to court but we won’t, we know he is not our MCE so we won’t solicit any help from me. Any developmental projects will be from our pockets”, he added.
