Freedom of the Ghanaian media fraternity has been under discussion since the release of the RFS Report on global Press freedom last month.
Ghana was ranked 60th in the Report, indicating media practitioners are not given the free will to operate as political hands interfere in their activities.
An aide to former President John Dramani Mahama, Joyce Bawa Mogtari has blamed the Akufo-Addo led government for intimidating journalists who openly write or speak against allegedly corrupt and indecent acts in his administration.
He alleged that many journalists such as Anas Aremeyaw Anas have stayed low in their activities due to intimidations from the government security apparatus.
The NDC female Communicator was, however, worried Ahmed Suale of Tiger PI had to be murdered after an expose on the activities of GFA.
“Ahmed Suale was murdered for exposing the truth but my problem is that a known politician sat on television and called for his death. Truly, he was killed and as of now, the matter is still hanging” she stressed.
Madam Bawa Mogtari also indicated that President Akufo-Addo had earlier called on the media and the general public to be part of his government by sharing their views but it seems his call has been subverted.
Speaking on Metro TV Good Morning Ghana show on Monday, Madam Bawa Mogtari has therefore chastised the government for denying Ghanaians the freedom to speak on matters relating to governance.
