Some Ghanaians are demanding an address or a statement from the President, Nana Akufo-Addo, and his administration on their stand on Homosexuality.
They also want an amendment of the 1992 Constitution to give stiffer punishment for persons involved in Homosexuality in Ghana and vowed to hit the street for demonstration if the Government and Members of Parliament fail to act immediately.
President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has given the clearest indication yet that the government has no plans to change the existing laws of the country to legalize same-sex marriage.
He said his administration had no authority and would not seek any authority to touch the existing laws of the country to make way for such acts.
The President declared the government’s position on same-sex marriage at the opening ceremony of the August 2018 Synod of the Global Evangelical Church in Accra.
But Some Ghanaians on Social media platforms said “He should come out and speak now ooo and remove his mouth”, ” We are in 2021 and u are posting 2018 thing”
“He should explain to us why it is happening now…Why is he even quiet”, “We want the stand of our president now.
He was even supposed to address the nation last Sunday”.
The newly-opened Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual Transgender and Queer Intersex Rights (LGBTQI) office in Ghana is causing a stir as Ghanaians believe Government may legalize Homosexuality soon.
