Koforidua – The National President of Pre- Tertiary Teachers Association of Ghana ( PRETAG) King Ali Awudu has raised concern about successive governments appointment of non professionals into the Ghana Education Service to hold sensitive and key positions such as Director General or Deputy Director General.
King Ali Awudu noted that even though there are many qualified and competent professionals in the education service, successive governments continue to appoint individuals who have no educational background to hold key positions in the GES for their political interest.
He further indicated that when such non professionals take over these rolls , their policy direction and decisions are always not in the interest of the teacher unions and their membership thereby raising a lot of agitations among its membership.
King Ali Awudu, the National President of PRETAG made the disclosure during the maiden Teacher Assembly of Pre- Tertiary Teachers Association of Ghana in Koforidua in the Eastern region.
Concerning the government recent decision on the Teacher Licensure Exams, King Ali Awudu clarified that there has been restructuring of the licensure exams to integrate it into the various colleges final exams upon completion.
The Communications Director of Pre- Tertiary Teachers Association of Ghana (PRETAG) Kingsley Anyimadu highlighted some key concerns of the association and how it intends to use such forums and meetings with its members to address their concerns and challenges in their respective regions.
The Eastern Regional Chairman of PRETAG Isaac Adjei also revealed that the teacher is the center of education therefore the welfare of the teachers is of great concern to the association leaders and it will continue to fight and champion on better condition of service to its members.
