Former Ghana international Prince Tagoe has called out current Black Stars players following the teams’ recent unimpressive performances.
The four-time AFCON winners has been poor in the AFCON 2025 qualifying series and are on the verge of missing out for the first time in 20-years.
Ghana has managed just two points after four games in Group F. They have succumbed to two defeats and two draws from the initial two games.
Speaking on Bryt FM’s Adekyee Mu Nsem on Bryt FM, the former Hearts of Oak and Hoffenheim attacker urged Black Stars players to prioritize Ghana over their selfish gains.
“Everyone deserves salary after rendering services at the end of the day. I have no qualms if Black Stars players receives huge remunerations. Truth be told, the current Black Stars players must respect the country. They need to place the country first before their selfish gains. If they do that, they will play good football for Ghanaians to enjoy” he said.
Tagoe then criticized the individualistic display among the players, saying, “Our players are very selfish because everyone wants to be on the score sheet and make a name which isn’t right. When these players are at the various clubs, they make sure they play to a system which will yield results for the team but not an individual”
“We have good strikers but they are not getting the incisive passes to score. We shouldn’t blame the strikers for lack of goals because players who are supposed to release the balls to them are not doing that”
“The individualistic play among the Black Stars players is too much. They always play for themselves but not the team. If a striker is able to create space for himself and does not get the balls, that striker becomes frustrated.”
