“Government would ensure proceeds from the electronic levy (e-levy) is useful for the intended purpose of developing the country to benefit all”, this was a statement of a Government Spokesperson.
Speaking on Bryt FM news last Saturday evening, on the passage and President’s assent to the controversial tax, Hon. Abdul El Samed insists that the President Akufo-Addo led government has been open and transparent in the use of the country’s resources, hence the assurance that the monies from the e-levy will be utilized well.
President Akufo-Addo last Thursday assented to the passage of the law which is expected to take effect on May 1, 2022, after it has been gazetted.
According to Hon. Samed, the introduction of the tax will strengthen Ghana’s financial status and also do away with excessive borrowing that normally comes with many unfavorable conditions.
He stressed that the NPP since 2017 has been able to initiate many policies and programs that have yielded positive results in empowering the social well-being of its citizens.
Hon. Abdul Samed was, however, surprised at the posture of the opposition National Democratic Congress and the minority in Parliament who did not partake in the passage of the e-levy.
“I am assuring Ghanaians that the monies from the e-levy will be used for what it is intended for. We have a track record. We had very little resources when we assumed power in 2017 but look at the numerous policies we have implemented across the length and breadth of the country” he emphasized.
He, therefore, called for the support of all Ghanaians to support the government in ensuring Ghana achieves the best for all citizens no matter one’s financial status.
