Emmanuel Lord Boam, an aspiring parliamentary candidate for the National Democratic Congress in the Pru East constituency, has pledged to offer scholarships to brilliant but needy female Senior High School graduates.
At least 10 females are expected to benefit from the proposed scholarship scheme in his first term, which aims to support their tertiary education in Science and Engineering.
According to Lord Boam, the scholarship scheme, which will be launched in 2025, will be more effective and competitive with more needy students benefitting when he is elected as the Member of Parliament for Pru East.
He stated that the scheme will run throughout his tenure when elected, therefore, he urged voters in Pru East to vote for him and the Flagbearer of the NDC, John Mahama, to make his vision a reality.
According to Mr. Boam, many parents struggle to enrol their children in tertiary institutions due to financial difficulties.
He hopes to bridge this gap and provide support to students, especially females, to reach their full potential in Pru East Constituency of the Bono East Region.
The scholarship initiative also seeks to improve education levels and provide equal access to education.
Mr. Boam visited WASCE candidates at Parambo No.1 Community Day SHS, who are writing their final examinations at Prang in Pru West district.
Mr. Lord Boam told Kaakyire Kwasi Afari of Ark FM that his visit to the SHS candidates at Prang was to provide motivation and offer advice during their final examination.
The Parliamentary Candidate (PC) supported the WASCE candidates with GH¢1,500 to cover their daily expenses, urging them to study hard, as it is the only way to pass the examination.
He advised the SHS candidates from his constituency to refrain from any form of examination malpractice in this year’s WASCE Examination to avoid cancellation of papers.
The NDC PC highlighted the NDC’s free tertiary education policy for level 100 students, aimed at reducing the financial burden on parents.
Additionally, Mr. Boam hinted that the next NDC administration plans to establish a Community Day Senior High School at Parambo-Sawaba, providing access to Senior High School education for adjacent communities in Pru East.
He also promised to engage with the Ghana Education Service and West African Examinations Council to make Parambo No.1 Community Day Senior High School an examination centre.
In anticipation, the examination centre would help address the challenges faced by final-year candidates who have to write their exams outside their municipality.
