A senator in the Democratic Republic of Congo has filed a petition for the dismissal of speaker Alexis Thambwe Mwamba.
Mr Thambwe Mwamba is an ally of former President Joseph Kabila.
Senator Valentin Gerengo of the Movement for the Liberation of Congo forwarded it to the senate office.
“In accordance with articles 27 of the constitution, 23 paragraph five and 28 paragraphs 2 to 5 of the internal regulations of the Senate, we file this petition in order to require your forfeiture as Speaker of the Senate by the plenary assembly,” said Senator Gerengo in a letter of which he confirmed the authenticity to Actualite news website.
The Senate opens its extraordinary session this Tuesday with only one item on the agenda, namely the examination and adoption in second reading of the bill ratifying the African Continental Free Trade Area.
