Communications Director of the Ghana Football Association (GFA), Henry Asante Twum, insists Nations FC captain Razak Simpson is part of Black Stars plans despite missing out on latest call up.
Simpson was not included as Otto Addo unveiled his squad for the upcoming games against Chad and Mali in the 2026 World Cup qualifiers.
Ghana will travel face Chad on September 5 before hosting Mali at the Accra Sports Stadium on September 8.
Speaking to the media, Asante Twum explained that Simpson’s exclusion should not be misinterpreted as a sign of declining relevance or waning trust from the technical team, stressing squad selections are influenced by various factors, including tactical requirements, current form, and player rotation, and that Simpson’s absence is only temporary.
“Razak has been an important contributor to the Black Stars over the years, and that has not changed,” Asante Twum said.
“The coach and his staff have a plan for every selection, and sometimes certain players are rested or left out for strategic reasons. Razak’s quality and commitment to the national team are unquestionable, and he remains firmly in the plans going forward.”
As the Black Stars prepare for their upcoming matches, Asante Twum called for unity and trust in the process, emphasizing that the team’s ultimate goal is success at both continental and global levels.
“Fans should continue to support all the players called up,” he urged. “Razak is still part of our journey, and when the time is right, he will be back to give his best for Ghana.”
