The New Patriotic Party (NPP) has commenced constitutional processes to expel Professor Kwabena Frimpong-Boateng from the party following comments he made in a media interview.
In a press statement issued on January 13, 2026, the party said it took due notice of remarks made by Prof. Frimpong-Boateng during an interview on Channel One TV on Monday, January 12, 2026, where he reportedly described the NPP as a “fake party” and stated that he no longer considers himself a member of the party.
The statement further indicated that Prof. Frimpong-Boateng made additional allegations against the party, including claims that the 2023 NPP Presidential Primary was rigged in favour of Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, the party’s presidential candidate for the 2024 general elections.
The NPP firmly rejected these allegations, describing them as baseless and unsubstantiated. According to the party, the 2023 presidential primary was conducted in a free, fair, transparent, and credible manner, reflecting the will of party delegates and accepted by all candidates who participated.
The party described Prof. Frimpong-Boateng’s comments and conduct as highly reprehensible and inconsistent with the values, unity, and integrity of the NPP.
Consequently, it has invoked the relevant provisions of its constitution to begin due processes to expel him from the party, in strict adherence to the rules of natural justice.
The statement was signed by Justin Kodua Frimpong, General Secretary of the New Patriotic Party.
