Before amendments are expected to be done at the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP) National delegate’s conference in Kumasi, a proposal has been made to seek the attention of the party’s hierarchy.
Polling station women organizer in the Ablekuma West constituency, Rita Appiah is calling on the party to put down measures that would encourage more women to get involved in its activities.
She is, however, requesting that filling fees should be reduced for women to entice them to participate in its internal elections.
According to her, women have great potentials to help the party but are sometimes characterized by several challenges that make it difficult for them to even contest in the party’s internal elections.
Madam Rita Appiah emphasized that since most women are into businesses, a lot of them have been affected financially due to the outbreak of the COVID-19 pandemic which will make it hard for them to contest in the party’s internal elections come next year should leadership fail to act on the filing fee.
“I am suggesting to our party leadership to amend the constitution and reduce filling fees for women who want to contest in our internal elections. Women have a lot of potentials but competing squarely with men in such instances becomes a difficult task” she stressed.
The NPP over the weekend will hold its national delegates conference in Kumasi to deliberate on the party’s activities and make amendments to the constitution of the party based on proposals received from members.
