In order to reduce the constant pressure on the Ghana Police and mainstream Courts, the Ministry of Gender, Children and Social Protection and other stakeholders have introduced a system to train Paralegals who will help settle subsidiary legal matters in our communities.
In view of this mission; twenty (20) of these Paralegals have been trained to operate at the Techiman Central market in the Bono East Region which is the largest food market in West Africa, in order for peace and justice to prevail as it is not all matters that should always be sent to the police station.
Speaking at a short ceremony to launch the Paralegals Team, Madam Julian Mutaar, an Assistant Director at the Bono East Regional Coordinating Council who is also the Focal Person for UNFPA revealed that, the Paralegals were selected from all sectors and groups in the market and have been duly trained and urged the public to have great trust in them and always seek their services.
Madam Malorny Asibi, the Director of the Domestic Violence Division at the Ministry of Gender and Social Protection urged the Paralegals to work accordingly in collaboration with the Police (DOVVSU), Department of Children, Social Welfare and other relevant stakeholders.
Nana Kwasi Konadu Yiadom, Chief of Ayeasu in the Techiman Traditional Area and Leader of the Paralegals pledged to do a good job with his team to benefit the people in the area.
