Legendary musician Ofori Amponsah has advised colleague musicians to reject awards that come with just plaques with no money attached.
Explaining that the influence musicians have is very high and that makes organizers of award schemes secure sponsorships for their awards and for that matter, it’s about time musicians in the country started saying bye-bye to the award scheme which comes without money.
Mr. ‘All for real’ as he is affectionately called made this assertion during an interview on Adom FM
According to him, many artists in the country have received quite a number of awards but are very poor due to the lack of money that accompanies the award and has to beg to fend for themselves and their families.
Revealing that he has already made up his mind in that regard but is appealing to his colleagues to rally behind him so that the people entertainment industry will also enjoy fruits of their labour.
In his own words, the ‘Cinderella’ hitmaker said “For me, if someone calls me for an award and he/she does not give me money I won’t go. If they won’t give me anything valuable I won’t go. I past receiving plaques. I have decided and I’m calling on all my colleagues to do the same or else they are the same people who will laugh at us in future. It’s because of the musicians that’s why people come to fill the venue.
It’s because of the musician that the sponsorship comes through. If there is a program and they can give out a house as the price, then why can’t they do the same for artistes?” he asked rhetorically.
