The Member of Parliament (MP) for Ahanta West Constituency in the Western Region, Ebenezer Kojo Kum, has stated that the rejection of the 2022 budget will stall development in the country.
According to the Ahanta West MP, the budget helps in the development of every country.
Speaking to Abena Pokua Ahwenee on Dadi FM’s “Efa Wo Ho” morning show, Hon Ebenezer Kojo Kum averred that the rejection of the budget will make public salary payment difficult
Hon Ebenezer Kojo Kum maintained that it is a mandate for every Member of Parliament to ensure decisions taken by the parliament are influenced.
“Without the budget, the country can’t pay civil and public servants,’’ he told Abena Pokua Ahwenee.
Meanwhile, all 137 Minority Members of Parliament (MPS) voted against the motion when the question was put by the Speaker of Parliament, Alban Bagbin.
The Majority Caucus had earlier walked out of the Chamber over a misunderstanding with the Speaker.
Before the rejection of the budget statement, the House voted to dismiss an application by the Finance Minister to withhold votes on the budget to allow for further consultation with the leadership of both the Majority and Minority, especially on the introduction of the Electronic Levy (E-Levy) and a request to include the Blekusu Sea Defence Project in the budget.
