The General Overseer of the Glorious Word Power Ministry International, Rev. Isaac Owusu Bempah, charged for threatening to kill the self-acclaimed evangelist, Patricia Oduro Koranteng, a.k.a. Nana Agradaa, was granted bail Wednesday by the Accra High Court.
That was after the court upheld an appeal by his lawyer, Gary Nimako Marfo, against a decision of an Accra Circuit Court not to grant him bail.
Rev Owusu Bempah was granted bail in the sum of Ghc200,000 with two sureties.
Background
Rev Owusu-Bempah and four others Mensah Ofori, Michael Boateng, Frederick Ohene, and Nathaniel Agyekum were together charged with six counts when first put before the Circuit Court.
They however pleaded not guilty to the charges pressed against them for threatening to kill Patricia Oduro Koranteng, popularly known as Nana Agradaa.
Owusu Bempah and Mensah Ofori were charged with two counts of Offensive Conduct Conducive to the breach of peace and threat of death, the remaining three were also charged with assault on a public officer.
The accused persons were arrested Sunday, September 12, 2021, for the “creation and circulation of multiple videos containing threats, and the brandishing of a weapon and the assault of some police personnel”.
Some plain-clothed officers of the CID UNIT initially went to the church premises to invite Rev. Owusu Bempah to the CID headquarters after he failed to honor several invitations by the Police.
Some associate pastors and church members and his private security details at the Church resisted the attempts of the officers and eventually disarmed them and allegedly held them hostage.
Armed Police Reinforcement team was quickly dispatched to the Church premises to free the police officers, arrested Rev. Bempah and the three other accomplices.
A statement issued by the police on Sunday, September 12, 2021, after the arrest and signed by its acting Director of Public Affairs, ACOP Kwesi Ofori stated that the arrests were made “after critically analyzing the said videos and based on intelligence gathered”.
Meanwhile, two other suspects are said to be on the run and are being pursued.
The injured police personnel have also received medical treatment according to the statement.
