The Conference of Heads of Assisted Secondary School (CHASS), has asked its members to remain calm as investigations begin into allegations of diversions in food supplies in some Senior High Schools in the Ashanti Region.
The Police Criminal Investigations Department (CID) is probing some 53 SHSs in the Region over alleged corruption in the implementation of the School Feeding Programme under the Free SHS policy.
Management of the GES has therefore written to the Ashanti Regional Directorate to ensure that all school heads and other officials cooperate with the ongoing investigations.
There has been widespread agitation and anger among school heads whose institutions have been captured in the ongoing probe.
But the CHASS President, Alhaji Ahmed Yakubu, has urged calm among its members.
“We only have to stay calm and observe to see how things will unfold. One thing we know for sure and certain is that nothing of that sort has happened; that is headmasters giving out food and giving out cash”, he said.
Some of the schools listed in the statement are Afia Serwaa Kobi Ampem SHS, Adu Gyamfi SHS, Kumasi Anglican, Kumasi Girls, Kumasi Wesley Girls, KNUST SHS, and Opoku Ware SHS.
Others include Osei Tutu SHS, Prempeh College, Kumasi Academy and the Kumasi Technical Institute.
“Respective District Directors of Education are required to release the Headmaster/Mistress or the Assistants, Domestic Bursars, Accountants and Storekeepers of the attached list of schools to the CID for investigations if requested.”
“It would be appreciated if your office could co-operate and collaborate fully with the CID in carrying out the investigations,” the statement added.
