The president of the National Association of Graduate Teachers (NAGRAT), Mr. Angel Carbonu has called on the West Africa Examination Council (WAEC) to reschedule the 2020 West Africa Secondary school Certificate Examination (WASSCE) over the outbreak of COVID-19 coronavirus.
According to him, the outbreak has affected Countries that participate in West Africa Secondary school Certificate Examination and Schools in these Countries have been closed down which has affected preparations towards the exams which is expected to commence in April 2020.
Students who live in the five English-speaking West African countries, Nigeria, Ghana, Sierra Leone, The Gambia, and Liberia write the WASSCE.
In an interview with an Accra based Radio, Citi FM’s point-blank, Angel Carbonu noted that if the deadly disease keeps on spreading, Examination centers and arrangements for students need to be changed which he believes will negatively affect supervision and invigoration.
Mr. Carbonu has appealed to the Ghana Education Service, as matter of urgency to visit the president to brief him on the situation on grounds to contact other West African countries leaders which write this examination to hold talks with WAEC immediately.
For him, since all the West African countries which come under WAEC have recorded cases of the coronavirus, “what stops the Council (WAEC) from postponing the exams to the right time? It’s a simple decision”
“When exams starts, the students will be congregated in a hall, teachers will have to go among the students to invigilate. What are you solving [then]?” he queried.
