The outgoing Director-General of Prisons, Mr. Patrick Darko Missah, has appealed to the government and other stakeholders to support the Ghana Prisons Service with adequate resources and logistics to enable it to discharge its mandate effectively.
He said the Prison service does not have adequate logistics to operate with despite its critical role in the justice and security systems of the country.
Mr. Missah made the call yesterday at a farewell parade and pull-out ceremony held in his honor at the Prison Officers Training School in Accra.
“I wish to appeal to the government and other stakeholders to provide more resources and logistics, especially, vehicles to enable the Ghana Prisons Service to contribute effectively towards public safety, and the rehabilitation and reformation of offenders”, he said.
The Minister for the Interior, Mr. Ambrose Dery, who graced the occasion, presented the “Plaque of Honour” to Mr. Missah.
A citation presented to him by the Ag. Director-General of Prisons, Mr. Isaac Kofi Egyir on behalf of the Ghana Prisons Service, read: “Your dynamism, diligence, and high interest in human resource and infrastructural developments at the Ghana Prisons Service are there for all to see and are indelible in the annals of the history of the Service.”
Mr. Missah handed over a key, “the symbol of authority” for the headship of the Service to the Acting Director-General of the Prisons Service, Mr. Isaac Kofi Egyir, signifying a successful transfer of authority.
The event which was climaxed with a pull-out ceremony for the outgoing Director-General of Prisons saw very senior officers of the Service of the ranks of ADP and DDP line up to symbolically pull the outgoing Director-General of Prisons out of his over 32 years of active service to mother Ghana.
Mr. Missah urged officers of the Service to support and be loyal to the new Director-General to enable him to advance the cause of the Ghana Prisons Service.
The outgoing Director-General is a native of Akyem Asiakwa in the Eastern Region
