The Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) for Wassa Amenfi east municipality in the western region Hon Frederick K . Kuranchie has cautioned illegal miners operating within every corner of the municipality to stop since the assembly is fully prepared for them.
According to him the Municipal Security Council will deal drastically with illegal mining operators who are operating without fear.
The municipal chief executive, Hon Frederick K . Kuranchie sounded the caution in an exclusive interview with newsmen on the assembly’s plans to clamp down on Illegal mining ( galamsey ) activities in the Wassa Amenfi east municipality.
According to Hon Kuranchie, the NPP led Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo Addo administration is not against mining in the country but rather the illegal means which results in destroying the country’s river / water bodies, forest reserves and the environment as a whole.
He emphasised that Government introduced Responsible Mining dubbed Community Mining Concept / Program for Artisanal Small Scale Miners which a training program was done free of charge to all small scale miners in the country in order to guide them to operate without causing destruction to our river bodies and the forest reserves.
As an expert in mining , hon Frederick Kuranchie hinted that the community mining which has come to stay will go a long way to solve illegal mining issues in the country.
Barely 8 months in office as the municipal chief executive for Amenfi east, Hon Frederick K . Kuranchie has led a team of the Municial Security Council which they successfully arrested and impounded mining equipment at the galamsey sites, the MCE further disclosed.
These efforts made by Hon Frederick Kuranchie and his security team have been hailed.
The Amenfi east MCE stressed that the assembly will at all times work so hard to clamp down on galamsey activities in area.
Through his effort in the fight against Illegal mining activities Government through the Lands and Natural Resources ministry has inaugurated a 6 member miining committee in the Amenfi east municipality tasked with responsibility of supervising of small scale mining activities, identify prospect of minerals and assist miners to regularise them to sanitize the system.
During the inaugural ceremony it came to light that spaces have been acquired for the putting up of the offices of Minerals Commission and Environmental Protection Agency ( EPA ) in Wassa Akropong.
