NPP flagbearer hopeful Dr. Bryan Acheampong claims that the New Patriotic Party (NPP) has cautioned against retaining Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia as its presidential candidate for the 2028 general elections.
He claims that the party’s results in the 2024 polls show that keeping the same candidate will not materially change its election outcomes.
In an interview with Umaru Sanda Amadu on Face to Face on Channel One TV on Tuesday, December 23, Dr. Acheampong made the case that the party’s actions prior to 2028 should be based on the outcomes of the 2024 elections.
“If you go into the 2024 elections results, you cannot repeat a candidate. Not much will change,” he warned.
According to Dr. Acheampong, leadership is still essential for winning elections even though Ghanaians are able to overlook political parties’ previous governance failings.
“Ghanaians will forgive our party [NPP] for a lot of the wrongs it did in the past, because they forgave the NDC. It will forgive NPP. But we have a candidate challenge that we may not be able to surmount. Leadership inspires hope,” he stated.
