Former Hearts of Oak striker Reuben Senyo has called for the dissolution of the Black Stars after poor showing in the 2025 African Cup of Nations qualifiers.
His remarks stem from the Black Stars 2-0 defeat to Sudan on Tuesday at the Benina Martyrs Stadium in Libya.
The result leaves Black Stars on the verge of failing to qualify for the CAF’s biggest tournament to be held in Morocco next year. The four-time African champions last failed to qualify for the AFCON tournament in 2004.
Ghana are remains winless in the qualifying series after four matches. The team will need a miracle to secure AFCON spot next year.
And Senyo sharing his views during the phone in segment on Bryt FM’s Adekyee Mu Nsem advocated for the annulment of the Black Stars following their unimpressive performance in the qualifiers.
“It is about time we dissolve the Black Stars because there is nothing we can get from these crop of players. We have to turn our attention to the local league because we had players from the Ghana Premier League who performed better for the national team years back. The likes of Dan Quaye, Charles Taylor, Shilla Illiasu, Habib Mohammed and others played for the Black Stars while playing in Ghana” he said.
Ghana now needs to secure wins against already-qualified Angola and Niger, while hoping that Sudan falters against these same opponents, to keep their chances alive for next year’s tournament in Morocco.
