A fire outbreak at the 31st Young Women Christian Association (YWCA) Palm Oil factory in Akyem Tafo, located in the Abuakwa North constituency of the eastern region, caused extensive damage to machines, equipment, and valuable items.
The incident, which occurred in the early hours of Thursday, was allegedly attributed to the recent unstable power supply.
An entourage from the office of former President John Dramani Mahama, led by Ghana’s former Ambassador to the UK, H.E. Victor Smith, visited the factory to assess the extent of the damage.
According to the factory’s spokesperson, the fluctuating electricity supply led to a fire in the factory’s meter, resulting in the outbreak that destroyed machines used for oil extraction and 200 gallons of oil intended for export to Burkina Faso and other countries.
Ambassador Victor Smith expressed sympathy for the victims and assured them that he was sent by Former President John Dramani Mahama to assess the damage.
He promised to report the exact extent of the damage and pledged support for the factory’s revival, particularly due to the impact on the workers, many of whom are women.
The entourage included NDC Parliamentary Candidate for Abuakwa North constituency Mr. Charles Darko Yeboah, Alhaji Sadidi, constituency chairman, party executives, and other party members.
