On Bryt Adekyee Mu Nsem with Kwamina Sam Baniy on Bryt 99.1 FM, Hon. Rita Akosua Adjei Awetey, the Eastern Regional minister shared insights following President John Dramani Mahama’s visit to Koforidua.
According to Hon. Awatey, this marks the fourth time President Mahama has visited Koforidua, emphasizing his commitment to engaging with citizens across the country. She highlighted that the President’s visit was part of a nationwide thank-you tour, following the National Democratic Congress’s (NDC) victory in the December 7, 2024 general elections.
“The people of Ghana came out in their numbers to vote, and by the grace of God, the NDC emerged victorious, with President Mahama declared the winner,” she said.
Hon. Awetey noted that support for the NDC has significantly increased in the Eastern Region, with the party securing 47% of the votes in the area. As a gesture of appreciation, President Mahama visited 15 regions, including the Eastern Region, to express his gratitude.
She explained that the President personally thanked chiefs, pastors, market women, teachers, media houses, truck pushers, and others, saying, “He deeply appreciates and loves them for their support.”
Hon. Awetey further revealed that President Mahama has appointed 47 individuals from the Eastern Region to various positions in recognition of the region’s contribution to the party’s success.
She also praised Mahama’s commitment to development, saying, “People once claimed he was overpromising, but we are now witnessing the fulfillment of those promises. Aside from God and our traditional leaders, we call him ‘The Great One’ because he delivers.”
According to Hon. Awetey, the President announced plans to complete several abandoned projects in the region, including roads, buildings, and the Alpha Place Bridge over the River Pram. He has instructed contractors to return to their sites and resume work.
She concluded by saying, “True leadership isn’t about sitting in an office. President Mahama is teaching us all—especially the newly appointed leaders—to go down to the grassroots, where the real work happens. That’s where our strength and support lie.
