Mr. Abdullah Mahama, a Road Consultant, has called for greater professionalism and dedication among Ghanaian technical trainees.
Speaking on Bryt FM’s Adekyee Mu Nsem morning show with host Kwamina Sam Baney, Mr. Mahama lamented that many young people abandon their technical education in pursuit of quick money, leaving them without the skills needed to excel in the construction industry.
He described this trend as worrying, noting that it affects the quality of work delivered in critical national projects.
He explained that as a contractor, it is often difficult to employ workers who are not properly trained for specialized tasks. According to him, professionalism and discipline are key in producing lasting infrastructure.
To support his point, Mr. Mahama highlighted his own track record, mentioning that he was part of the team that constructed the Oyarefa, Ayimensa, Peduase, Katase, Kankama, and Aburi roads in 2004. He emphasized that these projects, which remain durable after 19 years, demonstrate the capability of Ghanaian engineers when proper standards are applied.
Mr. Mahama urged the youth to value skill acquisition and integrity, stressing that lasting development can only be achieved through professionalism and commitment.
