The Road Transport Operators have outlined certain stringent measures that they have put in place to ensure the safety of drivers and passengers due to the uplifting of the social distancing protocols in vehicles.
In a press release by the Road Transport Operators, they asserted that they will ensure that drivers and passengers put on their nose mask before they will be allowed to board any vehicle.
According to them, there will be ‘NO MASK NO ENTRY inscriptions and notices posted at all their terminals and lorry parks as well as on all commercial buses and cars.
They will also use Public Announcement Systems in transport terminals and lorry parks to reinforce key messages on wearing the nose mask and also practicing other safety precautions.
They also added that all transport terminals will have handwashing facilities and FDA approved alcohol-based hand sanitizers at all entry points and vantage places where travellers can have easy access to use.
In furtherance, they went on and averred that the Union Executives, Station Managers and Masters will provide gun thermometers to check the temperature of all passengers and workers before they will be allowed to enter any bus.
“All transport operators are to ensure that their buses, trotro, taxis and pre-booked saloon cars are regularly disinfected with chlorine-based substance and alcohol rub on hard surfaces” they added.
Assuring that they will make sure drivers and their conductors guarantee that all windows of their vehicles are opened to allow ventilation in the buses. Again insisting that there will also be a pre-departure briefing on COVID -19 on all commercial buses and minibuses for intercity travels.
The Transport Operators also brought out some emergency numbers for drivers to call when passengers or traveller feels unwell or continuously cough in the buses. They also instructed drivers to quickly report any passenger who refuses to wear their mask to the nearest police station.
