Ghana’s investigative journalist, Manasseh Azure Awuni has taken a swipe at Ghana’s political leaders after RSF Report on Press Freedom globally.
According to the outspoken media personality, he is not surprised Norway came first in the above-mentioned report as its media has crossed borders to investigate alleged corrupt scandals in Ghana.
Taking to his Facebook page, Mr Azure wrote “Norway is first on the press freedom index. Norwegian media investigated Ghana’s Ameri and Covid-19 vaccine scandals”.
Ghana was ranked 60th in the report as to the freedom of the press which has been described as not the best.
Background
In 2015, Ghana’s Minister of Power signed a deal with a man from Oslo who wanted fraud and organized crime. The deal is worth 510 million dollars.
Also, a Norwegian media outlet (www.vg.no) 2021 accused some officials of the government of signing an agreement to procure Russia’s Sputnik vaccines for $9 more than the original price per dose.
According to the media outlet, the original price per dose is $10 but was rather purchased for $19.
The agreement for the procurement of the vaccines per the report by a local media outlet was signed between the Minister for Health, Kwaku Manu Agyeman and an Emirati official who was also allegedly involved in the sale of Gas Turbines to Ghana in the controversial Ameri deal as well as another wanted Norwegian citizen.
“The sample proves that the Sheik has access to the coronavirus vaccine. A product sought after by every country in the world. Now, it is time for negotiations. Six days later, the Ministry of Health in Ghana signs an agreement with the Sheik. They announce that they have reached an agreement regarding the purchase of 3.4 million vaccine doses,” noted the media outlet.
