Eight (8) passengers are reportedly dead in a gory vehicular accident on the Wa to Sawla highway in the Savannah Region after crushing into a “flying” student chop box.
About 22 passengers were seriously injured.
The accident occurred Thursday, March 18, 2021.
According to the Sawla-Tuna-Kalba District Police Command, the 23-seater Sprinter bus with registration number AS 3022-15 was from Wa in the Upper West Region heading towards Kumasi.
Upon reaching the outskirts of the district at about 11:30am, a student chop box fell off from another bus that overtook the Sprinter bus.
The speeding Sprinter bus then ran over the chop box, bursting a tyre before crashing into a bush killing eight passengers on the spot.
The injured passengers are being treated at the Sawla District Hospital while bodies of the deceased are sent to Wa Hospital Mortuary for identification and burial.
