South Africa’s President Cyril Ramaphosa has rejected the idea of a state funeral for rapper AKA.
Gauteng’s premier Panyaza Lesufi had written to President Cyril Ramaphosa requesting permission to give slain rapper Kiernan Forbes, popularly known as AKA, a state funeral.
Lesufi said the government had denied his request even though he had not requested state funds for the funeral.
He only wanted the late rapper’s coffin draped with the national flag and flags to be flown at half-mast in honor of the artist.
A public memorial for the rapper is taking place on Friday. He will be buried on Saturday.
