Cyril Ramaphosa will be sworn in for a second term as South Africa’s president after being re-elected by lawmakers.
This follows a coalition deal between his African National Congress (ANC) and the Democratic Alliance (DA) and other parties, necessitated by the ANC losing its majority for the first time since 1994.
The inauguration in Pretoria will be attended by dignitaries from various countries and feature military and artistic displays.
The uMkhonto weSizwe (MK) party, led by former President Jacob Zuma, will boycott the event, labeling it “farcical.”
After the inauguration, Ramaphosa will appoint a new cabinet and outline economic recovery plans. He first became president in 2018 following Zuma’s resignation amid corruption allegations.
