The Chiefs, Queens and people of Sakyikrom traditional area near Nsawam in the Eastern region have climaxed the celebration of this year’s Odwira festival.
The colourful traditional ceremony was attended by some traditional rulers and prominent personalities in the country.
In his address, Chief of Sakyikrom Nana Sakyi Agyakwa (V) appealed to the government to construct footbridge to safeguard crossing of the Accra to Kumasi by residents of Sakyikrom New Site community particularly school children, pregnant women and traders.
According to the Chief was alarmed by high rate of pedestrian knockdowns in the area.
Nana Sakyi Agyakwa (V) further bemoaned that Sakyikrom which comprise of East, West and Central communities lack market center,police station and health facility.
He also complained about the deplorable state of internal roads.
On his part, Nana Takyi Akomea (I) Mawerehene of Sakyikrom affectionately call “Double” a popular national security operative, said it his vision that a police station is established in the community hence he has taken upon himself to begin the construction of police station as well as rehabilitation of Sakyikrom community school.
He further encouraged the youths to abstain themselves from all forms of unlawful acts rather devote their time into education in so doing such youths may be given the needed support through scholarship packages to improve their lives to help bring development in the community.
The PRO of the Ministry of Energy, Kwasi Obeng Fosu ,who was guest speaker for the occasion on behalf of the Minister for Energy said there has been significant improvement in the Energy sector , adding that despite the current economic challenges , the government is determined to work hard and turn the fortunes of the country around so that Sakyikrom receives it share.
He advised parents to encourage their children to brace Technical and Vocational Education since it is the only way to breach the gap of the industrialization revolution to reduce youths unemployment in Ghana.
