Hon. Hajia Zuwera Ibrahimah, Member of Parliament for Salaga South, held a constructive meeting at her residence in Kpembe with the Coalition of Salaga Youth Group and leaders of the traditional authority to discuss key developmental concerns within the constituency.
The meeting formed part of the MP’s broader efforts to deepen engagement with community stakeholders and collectively address pressing issues affecting the lives of constituents. The discussions were focused, solution-oriented, and covered the following critical areas:
- Electricity Challenges
The Coalition of Salaga Youth Group and the Traditional Authority shared feedback from their recent meeting with the Northern Regional NEDCo Director and their inspection visit to Bimbilla. Hon. Hajia Zuwera acknowledged the hardship the persistent power outages cause for both households and businesses. She assured the group that the challenge would be addressed very soon. She noted that the Datoyili substation has been completed and is currently undergoing testing, and that Salaga will be connected to it once it is commissioned. The MP reaffirmed her commitment to liaising with the Minister for Energy and Green Transition, NEDCo, and other relevant agencies to push for sustainable power solutions for Salaga South.
- Water Situation
The scarcity of clean and reliable water was another major concern raised. Several communities reportedly face irregular water supply or rely on unsafe sources. The MP emphasized her ongoing efforts to secure borehole projects and advocate for improved water infrastructure to ensure access to safe drinking water across the constituency. She also shared updates on ongoing discussions between her office and the Managing Director of the Ghana Water Company Limited, Hon. Adam Muntawakilu, as part of efforts to address the water challenges in the constituency.
- Sanitation
Concerns were raised about poor waste management and the growing sanitation crisis in town centers and surrounding communities. Hon. Hajia Zuwera expressed her commitment to working with the District Assembly to enhance sanitation services, increase community sensitization, and support the implementation of sustainable waste disposal practices.
- Youth Unemployment
Youth representatives expressed deep concern over the lack of employment and income opportunities for young people. The MP acknowledged the gravity of the situation and reaffirmed her focus on facilitating vocational training, promoting youth entrepreneurship programs, and seeking partnerships with government and private sector stakeholders to create job opportunities for the youth in Salaga.
- Abandoned 60-Bed Euroget Salaga District Hospital
The incomplete state of the 60-bed Euroget Salaga District Hospital was a key point of concern. Stakeholders appealed for immediate action to operationalize the facility. Hon. Hajia Zuwera provided an update on her ongoing engagements with the Ministry of Health and reaffirmed her strong advocacy for the hospital’s completion and commissioning to meet the healthcare needs of the constituency.
- Deplorable State of Roads
Another issue of concern was the poor condition of roads in the constituency. The MP provided an update on steps her office is taking, in collaboration with the Minister for Roads, to address the issue. She indicated that some roads have been awarded on contract and that contractors are in the process of mobilizing to report to site. The MP also shed light on ongoing efforts to get contractors working on township roads back to site.
