A 55-year-old sales manager of Galaxy Oil filling station in Osenase in West Akyem Municipality of the Eastern Region, Emmanuel Donkor has been sentenced to four years imprisonment in hard labour by the Asamankese Circuit Court for embezzling Gh¢70,725.00 belonging to the company.
Emmanuel Donkor, the accused and manager in charge of the filling station pleaded guilty when he was charged for stealing, contrary to section 124(1) of Act 29/60, and was sentenced by his plea when he appeared before His Honour Abubakari Abass Adams, the Presiding Judge.
Inspector Susan Ayaric, the prosecution official told the court that the complainant is Emmanuel Kenneth Dadson who lives in Tema as marketing manager of Galaxy Oil Ghana Limited.
She said in June 2019, the internal Audit team of the company embarked on stocktaking at the Osenase Galaxy Oil filling station and after the exercise, the auditors detected that an amount of Gh¢70,725.00 was not accounted for by the accused person after-sales for some months.
The prosecutor said the accused was later invited to Galaxy Oil Ghana Limited head office at Tema for further interrogation and he admitted that he sold fuel worth Gh¢70,725.00 to one Mr.Ofori whom he(accused) does not know where he lives or works.
The Complainant, who was not happy over the response from the accused, reported the case to the police for further investigation and upon interrogation, the accused failed to account for the above amount and he was charged with the offense and sent to court for prosecution.
