It was a beautiful sight to behold when the Member of Parliament for Akropong, Hon. Ama Dokua Asiamah, Sammy Awuku, CEO of the National Lottery Authority (NLA), and former MCE for Akuapem North, Dennis Miracle Aboagye a presidential staffer sat together, chat, sang, and danced during thanksgiving service to the climax of the 25th-anniversary celebration of Akuapem – Mamfehene, Osabarima Ansah Sasraku II held Thursday, August 18, 2022.
There was a perceived rift between the MP Hon. Dokua, and Sammy Awuku as well as Dennis Aboagye on the other hand as manifested in dispute-ridden polling and constituency elections.
It is an open secret that Sammy Awuku is planning to unseat Hon. Ama Dokua Asiamah hence the tension between them which led to an unprecedented delay in the constituency election denying their participation in the regional election.
The long-delayed Akropong constituency executive election of the ruling New Patriotic Party, NPP, was finally held Wednesday, June 15, 2022, two days after Koforidua High Court struck out the injunction placed on the election and dismissed the suit against two Candidates.
However, the Member of Parliament Nana Ama Dokua reportedly boycotted the election and hence did not step foot at the venue. She decided to express her disapproval over manipulation against her in the entire election process from polling station to constituency levels.
Information gathered indicates that candidates who were aligned to the camp of Sammy Awuku, CEO of the National Lottery Authority won all the positions except the treasurer which went to the side of the incumbent Member of Parliament Nana Ama Dokua Asiamah.
Sammy Awuku has been lacing his boot to contest the Akropong Constituency election as MP for 2024 but facing strong opposition from the incumbent MP and her supporters.
Misunderstanding over the constituency elections led to court injunctions which prevented it from holding its election hence could not take part in the Regional Executive election.
