Residents of Santasi Apire in the Kumasi Metropolis in Ashati Region on Monday, October 5, 2021, demonstrated against the deplorable road to the community.
The demonstrators adorned with red dresses and wearing red armbands including taxi drivers, held a banner and placards with the inscriptions “Aspire Concern Association”, took to blocking the roads, and chanted war songs to express their displeasure over the abandoned road by the contractor.
The demonstrators clashed with police deployed to control them.
The demonstration by the residents comes few hours after President Akufo Addo taunted his massive achievement on road infrastructure in Ashanti Region.
According to the President who is touring the region, no government in the history of Ghana has massively developed Ashanti Region roads than his government in a short period.
However, residents of Santansi Apire who embarked on a similar demonstration on September 15, 2020, say the opposite is the situation in their Community.
They said, following their demonstration in 2020, a contractor came on the road but disappeared right after the December Presidential and Parliamentary election leaving the road to deteriorate after recent heavy rainfalls.
The Residents, therefore, called on the government to ensure that the contractor -Kofi Job Company returns to the site immediately.
