President William Ruto has pledged government support for families affected by floods in various parts of Kenya, expressing regret over the loss of life and property caused by the natural disaster.
During a visit to Mathare, Nairobi, Ruto announced financial aid of U.S.$75 for each affected household to seek alternative accommodation for three months, with priority given to 40,000 households in Nairobi for affordable housing. He attributed the situation to climate change and urged increased tree planting nationwide, reiterating the government’s commitment to planting 15 billion trees in a decade.
Floods continue to wreak havoc across Kenya, with the death toll reaching 228 and over 227,000 people affected since March. Rescue efforts are underway in various regions using helicopters, boats, and the help of government agencies and NGOs.
