The Seventh Day Adventist College of Education which was established on 26th October, 1962, has held its 13th congregation ceremony at the college’s chapel on 13th July 2023, with the theme ” Empowering the 21st Century Teacher with Technology and Life-long Learning Skills: The Role of Colleges of Education”.
Delivering the speech on behalf of the Eastern Regional Minister, Hon. Seth Kwame Acheampong, the Regional Co-ordinating Director of the Eastern Regional Co-ordinating Council, Mr. John Donkor extended the Eastern Regional Minister’s warm felicitations to the graduands and admonished that education is the bedrock of development of every country which ensures the acquisition of knowledge and skills which enables individuals to improve the quality of their lives.
He emphasized that the graduands must carry out their duties with humility and pride, recognizing the fact that they go to the world as teachers who naturally care for their students, saturated with selflessness and compassion.
Prof. Yayra Dzakadzie, Director of Tertiary Education who delivered the speech on behalf of the Education Minister, noted that education is the pivot upon which the nation’s progress is built. She therefore admonished them to work professionally for the development of the region and the nation at large.
She said the role of colleges of education goes beyond technical competence, that it includes instilling in the teachers the lifelong skills which is vital to adapt to an ever-evolving landscape, to critical thinkers, creative problems solvers, effective communicators, and empathetic leaders.
The Omanhene of New Juaben Traditional Council, Daasebre Kwaku Boateng III who delivered the speech on behalf of the Chiefs and the people of the New Juaben Traditional Area and on his own behalf, congratulated the graduands for their hard work by studying hard to realize their long awaited dream.
He thanked the management of SDA College of Education for their immerse contribution to the development of education system in the region and the nation at large.
The 13th congregation ceremony had a total number of 380 graduands in the area of B.Ed Early Grade Education, B.Ed Primary Education, and B.Ed JHS Education with overall best student being a female named Abigail Baidoo.
Awards were given to deserving graduands who had worked harder.
The ceremony was attended by nananom, parents, past and present students and the general public.
