On Tuesday, 2nd July 2024, President Akufo-Addo had the honour of addressing the SDGs Action Summit 2024 at the Kempinski Hotel Gold Coast City, Accra.
The president indicated “As we strive towards the 2030 United Nations Sustainable Development Goals, it is imperative to recognize the critical juncture we find ourselves in. The world is a mix of remarkable progress and daunting challenges, from technological advancements to climate change and economic disparities. These issues remind us of the urgency and importance of our collective efforts to build a sustainable and equitable future.
Our journey towards achieving the SDGs has seen notable strides, particularly in areas like access to safe drinking water, improved healthcare systems, and increased electrification rates. In Ghana, our Free Senior High School policy and the National Health Insurance Scheme have significantly advanced education and healthcare access, respectively”.
These initiatives highlight Ghana’s commitment to not only meeting, but also exceeding the SDG targets through strategic and impactful policies.
However, he emphasized the need to acknowledge the areas where progress has lagged.
“Challenges such as poverty reduction, climate change impacts, and economic inequalities persist, requiring urgent and innovative actions. Let us harness the power of collaboration and partnership to accelerate our efforts. By leveraging innovation, smart partnerships, and innovative financing, we can drive transformative change to end poverty, protect our planet, and ensure peace and prosperity for all.
I extend my heartfelt gratitude to the sponsoring partners, including the United Nations Development Programme, Volta River Authority, and others, whose support has made this summit possible. Together, let us commit to bold and decisive actions, reinforcing our dedication to the SDGs and maintaining the momentum towards achieving them. Through our collective efforts, we can build a sustainable and prosperous Africa that leaves no one behind” President Akufo-Addo added.
