Director-General of the Ghana Education Service (GES), Professor Kwasi Opoku-Amankwa, has revealed that 10million face masks have been distributed to schools after the reopening and another distribution will be done from 7th February 2021.
He said every student will receive two nose masts each and a bottle of Sanitizer but pupils in the Kindergarten will be given sizeable bottles to be distributed by their Teachers and added that stated also that 9.9million hand sanitizers have been distributed.
The Director-General made this known when he outlined several interventions being rolled out to contain the spread of COVID-19 in schools at the Information Ministry’s COVID-19 press briefing.
“Face mask, 10 million, Hand sanitizers 9.9million, 6-in-1 tissue paper, 1.65million, 4.5 Gallon liquids soap, 400,000, Veronica buckets, 53,000, Thermometer Guns, 38,000, 4.5 Gallon Hand sanitizers 140,000, electronic dispensers, 25,000, Face shields, 300,000,” he said.
According to Prof Opoku-Amankwa, Ghana Education Service (GES) has said it has trained 52,000 teachers to help curb the spread of COVID-19 in schools across the country.
“We have done several things. We launched an official back-to-school campaign at Mantse Agbona to educate, inform and get people to know that schools are reopening. Also, we, last week visited schools as part of the International Day for Education in a bid to get people back to school. We are also working with the Ministry of Information and the Ministry of Health to run a couple of adverts and programs on-air on the dos and don’ts as far as school reopening is concerned.”
“As part of ensuring that we abide by the protocols, we have also worked with the Ghana Health Service to map all schools to various health centers and health facilities such that whenever there is an issue even beyond the COVID-19, schools have been told where to seek any assistance. We have trained about 52,000 of our key staff and school helps who work with the GHS to ensure that the information is also provided to the teachers and the students.”
