President Akufo Addo has assured that security agencies will continue to remain under the Cap-20 pension scheme.
The scheme was supposed to have been phased out with the passage of the National Pensions Act (766), in 2008.
An attempt by the current government to move the security agencies to SSNIT was met with resistance amazing the security agencies saying they will be worse off.
The CAP 30 which is a non-contributory is a form of pension scheme Ghana inherited from its colonial master, which was in Chapter 30 of the 1950 British Colonial Ordinances (Pension Ordinance No. 42)
The worry of most workers’ groups has been the meager lump sum pensions received by workers who retire under the Social Security and National Insurance Trust (SSNIT) Pension Scheme compared to those still under Chapter 30 of the 1950 British Colonial Ordinances hence the disapproval of the security agencies.
Delivering the State of the Nation Address Tuesday, January 5, 2021, President Akufo Addo said, the appropriate legislation will be put in place for security agencies under the Cap-30 pension scheme.
