The Ghana Police Service has announced security arrangements, including roadblocks and traffic diversions, for the swearing-in ceremony of President-elect John Dramani Mahama and Vice President-elect Professor Naana Jane Opoku-Agyemang.
The presidential inauguration is scheduled to take place on Tuesday, 7th January, at the Black Star Square in Accra.
In a statement signed by the Director of Public Affairs, Grace Ansah-Akrofi, the Police highlighted the following areas as security zones for the ceremony.
The area around Ako Adjei Interchange through the AU Roundabout, State House, Osu Cemetery Traffic Light, Accra Sports Stadium, Independence (Black Star) Square, Ministries Traffic Light, Customs Headquarters Traffic Light area, and the Gamel Abdul Nasser Avenue.
The statement further announced the closure of key roads from 6:00 am to 6:00 pm on Tuesday, 7th January 2025.
Roads Closed to the Public: 28th February Road – from Customs Headquarters towards Castle Road Junction.
Both sides of Lokko Street – from Osu Cemetery Traffic Light towards the AU Roundabout.
Starlet 91 Road – from Ministries Traffic Light Intersection towards Accra Sports Stadium.
Traffic Diversions for Motorists: Traffic from 28th February Road (La, Labone, and Osu) towards the Central Business District (CBD) will be diverted onto Salem Avenue Traffic Light at the Castle Traffic Light, linking with Oxford Street .
Traffic from John Evans Atta Mills High Street towards the Independence (Black Star) Square will be diverted to Liberia Road at Customs Headquarters Traffic Light Intersection and connect to the National Theatre Traffic Light Intersection .
Motorists from Lokko Street towards Castle Road are advised to use Ajumako and Oxford Streets .
Traffic from the AU Roundabout towards Castle Road via Osu Cemetery Traffic Light will be diverted onto Abdul Diouf and King Hassan Roads , linking to Abdul Nasser-Gamel Road in front of the Ghana Institute of Journalism.
The Ghana Police Service also assured the public of adequate parking spaces and encouraged citizens to attend the ceremony.
In a related development, the National Security Ministry has imposed a ban on all drone operations during the inauguration.
