The Director of Academic Affairs and Research at the Kofi Annan International Peacekeeping Training Centre (KAIPTC), Professor Emmanuel Kwesi Aning has said the Parliamentary Select Committee on Defense and Interior, and the Ghana Police council has failed Ghanaians in term of safeguarding the peace and security of the people.
He said the Parliamentary Select Committee for some time now had failed to play its oversight functions consistently over time, while the police service is at the lowest end failed in generating and providing leadership.
In an interview on the latest appointment of Commissioner of Police (C.O.P) George Akuffo Dampare as IGP, Professor Emmanuel Kwesi Aning said the current police administration is devoid of direction, providing multiple excuses for its failures, releasing the sensitive intelligent document in the public domain and loss of institutional discourse to deliver the services that they are mandated by Constitution and by its institutional regulations.
Professor Emmanuel Kwesi Aning also blamed the Police Council`s inability to provide strategic direction over the years.
He said the Parliamentary Select Committee on defense and Interior is failing to request for an annual report to assess the performance and delivery of the service.
The Director of Academic Affairs and Research charged the new IGP to work hard to leave a legacy in the Police Service and pledged his support to him.
