The New Patriotic Party (NPP) party has been fined an amount of GHȻ20,000 by the Wenchi High Court over a case filed by them against the Electoral Commission and National Democratic Congress.
The parliamentary candidate on the ticket of the NPP, Joseph Markay Kuma filed a suit at the court after he expressed dissatisfaction with what he describes as electoral irregularities in the constituency.
The Wenchi High Court has thrown out the case and fine the NPP party an amount of GHȻ14,000 for wasting the court’s time and GHȻ6,000 against their candidate, Joseph Markay Kuma for the subsequent withdrawal of their petition for the interlocutory injunction, summing the amount to GHȻ20,000.
Military and Police personnel thronged the court premises in their numbers to ensure calm and order.
The petitioners were seeking that the court grants them a favour that the NPP candidate for Sene West, Joseph Markay Kumah was properly elected and be declared as such.
Lawyers for the NPP’s Sene West candidate, Nana Sekyere Boateng and Obiri Boahen, earlier withdrew their motion of injunction on the declaration of the results as filed in their petition.
The court on Thursday quashed the case and by this, the EC can now go ahead to either count the snatched ballot box or conduct fresh elections in that polling station only.
