The Deputy Eastern Regional Public Relations Officer (PRO) for the Ghana National Fire Service, Station Officer One Daniel Tetteh, has cautioned Ghanaians to service their gas cylinder if possible every year to avoid gas leakage.
According to Mr Tetteh, when the gas cylinder especially the pipe connecting the cylinder to the stove becomes old, the seal can corrode and gets weak which causes gas leakage normally resulting to fire outbreak.
He averred that gas leaks could occur from defective rubber tubes, faulty regulator fitting and poor handling of gas appliances.
“When a gas leak is suspected, extinguish all flames, and always store your gas cylinder away from sunlight, heat, sparks and flame. Consumers should not attempt to light a match when cylinders are opened because it can result in fire, injury or even death,” he revealed.
Mr Tetteh added that LPG gas cylinder must be stored in an upright position hence get the tubes checked by agents from the company which supplies you the gas cylinder.
Gas cylinder leakage is one of the major cause of severe damage to both human’s health and property hence consumers whether domestic or commercials including drivers should often service their gas cylinder to be safer for use.
Station Officer One Daniel Tetteh said this during a one- on- one verbal interaction with Bryt FM reporter Abba Kwegyirba Aggrey.
