The Member of Parliament (MP) for Shai Osudoku constituency in the Greater Accra Region Hon. Linda Obenwaa Akweley Ocloo has released Ghc250,000 to pay school fees of 30 tertiary students in her Constituency.
Most of the beneficiaries presented with cheques were fresh students who had gained admission to various tertiary institutions but were struggling to pay the admission fees hence risked being rejected.
The lawmaker observed that the economic hardship in the country has rendered many parents financially incapacitated therefore the continued financial support to poor but needy students.
“This is not the first time I am doing this; I have been doing it since I became MP to create opportunities for the brilliant but needy students. I use part of the MPs common fund and sometimes my funds. We don’t discriminate. The program is apolitical because everyone deserves support”.
According to the MP, education is her priority because of its potency to fight the quagmire of poverty.
Some of the beneficiaries expressed their appreciation to the Member of Parliament for the timely intervention.
“I am happy about it She has helped us. Some of us were not expecting it though but she has helped. I’m surprised about it because actually, I was expecting it”.
