Scores of rice farmers, traders and industries, manufacturer products group have said the deplorable state of roads infrastructure across the Shai-Osudoku constituency is a major crisis affecting development.
They added that the poor situation of the roads has continued to pose greater challenge and difficulties to the people of Osuwem, Volivo, Dofor and surrounding communities.
The road operators however called on the roads and highways ministry, Member of Parliament, Madam Linda Ocloo to lobby the state government to fix the roads in Shai-Osudoku to ease the problems encountered by traders and companies in transporting their products to the market areas.
According to the people, the deplorable roads in Osudoku had also been adversely affected by the economic condition in the Shai-Osudoku District.
Poor road network affects healthcare
The deplorable road networks in the Shai-Osudoku District of the Greater Accra Region is hampering efforts by the Ghana Health Service (GHS) to provide quality heath service.
The bad roads, were adversely impacting on healthcare delivery and therefore implored the MP, to lobby the government to as a matter of urgency, fix the roads in the Shai-Osudoku Constituency to save lives.
“What we have come to realise is that, the deplorable nature of the road network in Shai-Osudoku significantly having an impact on the health of the people and that is partly causing their deaths” they lamented.
Patients and pregnant women in Osuwem, Asutsuare, Volivo and surrounding farming communities in the ShaiOsudoku Constituency are carried on Okada and Aboboyaa for a miles to Akuse hospital due to poor road network and lack of health facility in the area.
The people said, the situation has led to the deaths of many pregnant women due to deplorable road network in the communities.
“The situation is also affecting farming activities in this communities and we are appealing to the member of parliament, government to come to our aid because we are all Ghanaians,” they lamented.
However, the farmers in these Communities said the unmotorable state of the roads has resulted in several losses saying they go through lots of challenges in transporting their produce and goods to surrounding market centers.
They added “we are facing many challenges with regards to the transportation of our foodstuffs to market centers for sale. We have to carry our foodstuffs on our heads before it can go to the market”
“We are appealing to the government, MP to lobby to rehabilitate our roads to make them more accessible to prevent our farm produce from perishing,” they said.
The Osudoku’s expressed these sentiment when the National Democratic Congress (NDC) aspirant MP hopeful, Dr. Michel Kpessa Whyte, Senior Lecturer at the University of Ghana Legon visited Osuwem, Asutsuare, Volivo and Dorfor branches.
The people of Akuse, Asutsuare, Volivo and Osuwem said, the dry season had made the level of dust in the area ”quite terrible and we are seeing a lot of respiratory tract infections such as cold, pneumonia and other chest disorders.

We’re confident that once the roads were fixed, it would significantly reduce the incidence of respiratory tract infections recorded in the area.
