The Ghana Education Service (GES) has announced that all public Senior High Schools (SHS) and Senior High Technical Schools (SHTS) across the country will resume academic activities on Monday, 5th January, 2026, as the 2025/2026 academic calendar remains unchanged.
According to Mr. Fenyii, Single Track Schools will have Forms One and Two reporting to school from January 5 to February 27, 2026, before proceeding on break until May 3. They will return on May 4 and continue lessons until August 21, 2026, marking the end of the academic year. He added that Form Three students under the Single Track system will attend school from January 5 to February 27, take a short break, and resume from March 14 to June 21, 2026, to complete their academic year.
Speaking on the matter, Daniel Fenyii, the Head of Public Relations at the Ghana Education Service, said the management of GES has maintained the academic calendar earlier released at the beginning of the school year. He explained that the decision was taken to ensure consistency and effective planning for schools, teachers, parents, and students nationwide.
According to Mr. Fenyii, Single Track Schools will have Forms One and Two reporting to school from January 5 to February 27, 2026, before proceeding on break until May 3. He added that Form Three students under the Single Track system will attend school from January 5 to February 27, take a short break, and resume from March 14 to June 21, 2026, to complete their academic year.
He further explained that for Transitional Schools, Form Three students will report from January 5 to March 31, observe the Easter break from April 1 to April 8, and resume on April 9 until June 21, 2026. Form Two students will attend in-person classes from January 5 to March 15, after which they will move to an online or off-campus learning period from March 16 to April 17. Following a short vacation, they will return to school on May 18 and continue until September 4, 2026.
Mr. Fenyii also noted that Form One students in Transitional Schools will begin the academic year with online or off-campus learning from January 5 to January 30, go on vacation from January 31 to March 15, and later report to school from March 16 to May 17. This will be followed by another online learning period and a short vacation before they finally return to school on July 3 to complete the academic year on September 4, 2026.
Touching on measures put in place to support online and off-campus learning, Daniel Fenyii said GES has provided several interventions, including guided projects and assignments, daily television lessons on the Ministry of Education Television (MoE TV) available on Multi TV, and the use of School-Based Learning Management Systems where available. He added that all approved textbooks and curriculum materials can be accessed free of charge on curriculumresources.edu.gh.
He emphasized that all online and off-campus learning periods are compulsory and form part of official instructional hours. He therefore urged heads of schools, teachers, parents, and guardians to take keen interest in supervising students to ensure full participation in all learning activities.
