A controversy is brewing in Sierra Leone over plans to replace the ECOWAS coat-of-arms on passports.
According to report it is replacing it with its newly adapted national symbol, the chimpanzee.
The government reportedly wants to adapt the chimp to boost tourism and increase the country’s income targeted at the sector.
But, Sierra Leoneans in the diaspora have criticized it, saying it could potentially expose them to further racism.
